Two Red Cross rescue helicopters are waiting to be told exactly where they can pick up the hostages. For now, the rescuers are in the town of Villavicencio near the Colombian capital Bogota.
The helicopters flew there yesterday from a military airbase in south-west Venezuela.
They were waved off by Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, a key figure in the hostages' release.
However, Colombia's president has said that despite this diplomatic success, Chavez will not be invited back to mediate with the FARC because he had "overstepped his mandate" by talking directly to Colombian army chiefs when he had been told not to do so.
The hostages expected to be freed are Clara Rojas and her young son who was fathered by one of the FARC captors and born in the Colombian jungle.
The third is former politician Consuelo Gonzalez.
Their release raises hope for the family of Franco-Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt.
